Abstract: Based on survey data, this paper examines the changing pattern of job and income distributions in post-reform Tianjin from 1978 to 2003. The focus of analysis is on the relative income status of elites and non-elites during the course of rapid marketization.To explore the spatial dimension of the distributions, we also ask if people's place of origin, duration of residency in Tianjin, and residential communities within the city may have contributed to their job and income statuses.
