Abstract: This paper thoroughly researches and summarizes the formation course and characteristics of Tianjin’s building style and its relation with Tianjin’ s rich and long cultures. Such shortcomings existing in the style and feature of Tianjin buildings as the ignorance of the relation between inner city renovation and heritage protection, building some artificial historic buildings and the disorderliness in the fields of architecture are also analyzed. Based on these analyses, this paper puts forward that we should highlight the features of building style in Tianjin and draw experience from both domestic and foreign building arts in an effort to create a building style of Tianjin featuring the 21stcenturies, represent the culture of modern Tianjin, combine functions, culture and art of the city building and build a modern city featuring the combination of modern science and technology and the traditional culture. This paper also puts forward such specific measures as: following the architectural tide of the world, inheriting the Chinese building culture, and protecting the traditional and pre-modern buildings.
